Royston Radio - which was established late last year - is celebrating its first anniversary this month.

In December 2022, the community radio station aired its first few broadcasts over the Christmas period, which was followed by two open days in January inviting people to take part.

The radio station, which is available to listen to at https://www.roystonradio.com/, now has a total of 33 presenters all focusing on different genres of music.

Royston Radio was founded by Melbourn resident, author and local historian Fonz Chamberlain, and is run out of a purpose-built studio in Coombes Community Centre.

A spokesperson for Royston Radio said: "We are a community radio station which is not for profit and one thing we have relied on to date is generous donations from the community for which we are extremely grateful.

Over the past year, the team has been involved in a number of community projects including education, supporting new businesses, attending local music festivals and sponsoring council events.

They donated Alexa devices with the help of Ensum Brown Estate Agents and welcomed visitors from the District Twinning Association.

Royston Radio thanked the town's businesses that have supported them over the last year, including Johnson Matthey, The Listing Magazine, Revolution Records and more.

They also thanked Royston's mayors, both past and present, for their support, including Cllr Rob Inwood, Cllr Mary Antony and current mayor Cllr Lisa Adams.

A spokesperson added: "We would like all our presenters old and new to take a bow and it’s been a real privilege to see them grow in confidence."
