Melbourn's family fun day returned after a five-year hiatus, with visitors enjoying magical unicorns, egg-throwing and more.

An estimated 3,000 visitors gathered at the Moor for the fete on Saturday, June 24.

The fete aimed to celebrate all things local, with stalls from a number of groups and businesses from the local community.

Visitors could enjoy food from 'the foodcourt of deliciousness', with all but one food vendor coming from under four miles away.

There was also a selection of classic vehicles - including traction engines and stationary engines - as well as steam engine and train rides.

Highlights included the arrival of some magical 'unicorns', and the ever-popular egg-throwing competition.

"We are very grateful to our many local sponsors for subsidising attractions, children’s entertainment and live music over a wide range of ages and styles, and especially for making it possible to keep entry free.

There was something for everyone, with visitors enjoying science projects, bouncy castles and a children's art competition.

The event met with high praise on social media, with one visitor commenting on Facebook: "This was by far the best fete I've been to in the local area".

Chairperson of the Melbourn Fete Committee, Gillian Morland, commented: "It’s amazing what can be done when a community pulls together, and we are so pleased that everyone had a good time."

The committee thanked everyone who attended. Profits from the day will be donated to local good causes, and the committee said they are already looking forward to planning their next event.

Melbourn Fete aims to bring the people of the village together to have fun, socialise and raise money for local groups. 

Previous fetes have raised more than £33,000 to help the local community.
