It was full steam ahead in Bassingbourn on Saturday as the Steam at the Hoops festival returned.

The event was organised by steam engine enthusiast Clive Flack, and hosted at The Hoops by the pub's landlord Russell Woolaston.

A wide range of classic engines and other vehicles were on display, including 'William' - a former road roller which was deployed by Cambridge City Council for repairing highways until 1985 - and a rare Foster 10hp Showman's Engine.

Visitors could also enjoy scaled down, rideable models of the larger vehicles, and a display of vintage bikes and cars, as well as street food, children's activities and a fairground organ.

The event was sponsored by Matthews Haulage and Partners, and supported by the Bedford Steam Engine Preservation Society and the Royston and District Round Table.

A raffle and auction has so far raised £1,740, which will go to the Bassingbourn pensioners and local charities.

Clive Flack said: "We are grateful to Russell, Tracy, and the staff of The Hoops for making us so welcome. Profound thanks to all of our helpers and exhibitors who made the event possible and so enjoyable.
