THERE is something quite relaxing about seeing expert archaeologists become enthusiastic over digging a hole, and then taking meticulous care to cover every inch of the ground.

The hope is, obviously, that an item of vast importance will be uncovered and help our understanding of events from the past.

Tony Robinson leads the experts by digging up the gardens at Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle and Holyroyd House. The Queen, it is believed, did give her permission.

One search involves looking for Civil War defences at Buckingham Palace, while another hoped to uncover evidence of an original place built by Henry II.
