ELLEN Kent and Opera International return to the Cambridge Corn Exchange with a romantic love story.

La Traviata by Verdi will be performed by the Ukrainian National Opera of Odessa, considered to be one of the finest opera companies in Europe.

This operatic version of La Dame aux Camelias by Dumas is a romantic story about the love and life of the passionate courtesan Violetta, and features beautiful sets and costumes as well as a large orchestra.

La Traviata, based on a true story, features many echoes of composer Verdi's own life.

The Ukrainian National Opera of Odessa, which has about 300 performances of opera and ballet each year at home alone, has just celebrated its 120th anniversary.

In 2002 the company received a standing ovation at the Royal Albert Hall for its production of La Traviata, so this performance looks set to dazzle audiences.

Ellen Kent chooses the soloists for her tours and has invited audience favourite Maria Tsonina, who won a scholarship to the CEE Musictheatre in Vienna, to play Violetta.

Meanwhile, ladies' favourite Andriy Perfilvo, whose acting as been compared with that of Orlando Bloom, will play Alfredo.
