It stars Mathew Horne, who played Gavin in Gavin and Stacey and Ed Speleers, who played the footman, Jimmmy in Downton Abbey.

Here we see them in roles we have never seen them in before and they are both revelations. When the play was at Windsor’s Theatre Royal in August, there were standing ovations at every performance.

Like the 1988 film starring Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise, the story centres on two American brothers. Speleers plays Charlie the slick businessman who discovers when his father dies that his inheritance has gone to an older brother he never knew he had.

Horne plays that severely austisic brother, Raymond a savant living in a care home, hundreds of miles away, geographically and metaphorically from Charlie’s life.

Charlie crosses America to find Raymond and removes him from his residence without permission. Unexpectedly, this is a play as funny as it is poignant. But we are never laughing at Raymond, Horne makes sure that we laugh with him and at his amusing take on life.

The play is at Cambridge Arts Theatre from Monday, October 8 to Saturday, October 13. Tickets 01223 503333 or www.cambridgeartstheatre.co.uk. To take up the special offer of tickets for £20, quote CASINO20 when booking online or when the call the box office.
