HELEN Mirren's acclaimed role as The Queen has already gained her recognition with a Bafta award.

Now we wait to see whether she will collect an Oscar at the Hollywood ceremony.

It is certainly an impressive piece of acting in a role that was probably made even more difficult as events surrounding the story are still so vivid in the public's mind.

The story revolves around the Royal reaction to the death of Diana in Paris.

The Queen is seen to retreat behind the walls of Balmoral and, seemingly, unable to comprehend the public response to the tragedy.

It clearly shows a crisis in Royal circles with Helen Mirren delivering a believable portrait of The Queen.

- The Queen will be released on March 12.
