St Patrick’s Day: Ceilidh fundraiser in Melbourn for Home-Start Royston & South Cambs

Celebrate St Patrick’s Day next weekend with live music from Irish folk band The Cyriacs at a ceilidh in Melbourn to raise money for Home-Start Royston & South Cambridgeshire.
The band has performed ceilidhs throughout Herts and Cambs but this is their first gig in Melbourn and they are pleased to be able to help raise funds for the family support charity.
Guitarist Andrew Noyes said: “We are delighted to support Home-Start Royston & South Cambridgeshire, And hope that people will come along to dance the night away in aid of this great charity.”
The Cyriacs perform a range of music – Motown with a blue grass twist anyone?! And although the event is taking place on St Patrick’s Day, the dances will be from various traditions.
Enthusiasm, but not experience, is required as dances will be taught by the band’s caller.
“We do not take ourselves too seriously and hope that everyone will enjoy joining in with the dances as much as we enjoy playing for, and teaching, them,” said Andrew.
The ceilidh is a new fundraising venture for HSRSC, which helps families with young children and in personal distress ‘get back on track’.
In so doing, they pro-actively prevent many problems from escalating.
A family who has benefitted from the service said: “Without Home-Start we would have fallen apart again. I can’t thank my volunteer and all the other volunteers enough for what they have done for us.”
HSRSC has to raise all its own funds and, spurred on by the support the local community helping to raise £100,000, their small team of dedicated staff and volunteers has a current target of £140,000. This will enable them to fulfil their home visiting and family group services, including further development into Buntingford.
A spokeswoman said: “We are keen to increase our network of individual and corporate supporters, so please take family and friends along to the ceilidh, enjoy an evening of live music and dance and help maintain this valuable local service.”
The event is at Melbourn Village College on Saturday, March 17 – doors open at 7.15pm. A sausage, burger, or veggie supper is included in the £15 ticket price and there will be a raffle and licensed bar – including Guinness.
