POPULAR Cockney duo Chas and Dave will be helping to celebrate the Plinston Hall's 25th anniversary this summer with a concert next month.

They will provide the entertainment in a good old-fashioned knees-up at the Letchworth venue on June 1.

Chas and Dave have been together since the 70s and worked extensively on the British rock scene before that.

Chas Hodges had worked with Joe Meek, backed Jerry Lee Lewis, and played with Cliff Bennett and the Rebel Rousers.

Dave Peacock had also played in various bands, and with drummer Mick Burt, they produced their debut album in 1975.

Their career took off, and they had a string of hits, including Gertcha, The Sideboard Song, Rabbit, and Ain't No Pleasing You.

New bands, such as The Libertines, cite Chas and Dave as a major influence, and even had them on the bill with them for their London shows.

The Plinston Hall concert starts at 7.30pm, and tickets cost £17.50, and £15 concessions. Box office: 01462 672003.

- On June 8 the venue stages a Smiths and New Order double bill tribute with The Smyths, and Re:Order. Tickets cost £11 in advance, and £13 on the door.
