An afternoon of music and poetry is to take place in Royston this weekend in aid of the Trinity Life Church.

Four musical acts will take to the stage at ‘Not Just a Sunday Afternoon Music Concert’ at the Old Bull Inn – and with poetry also thrown into the mix, there’s sure to be something for everyone.

First up is The TLC band, including the Youth, then husband and wife duo the Joys will perform.

Rock and pop covers band One to One, made up of Ron Flesch on guitar and vocals, and Roger Brooks on bass, will play both electric and acoustic covers from the 1960s to the present.

People reading poetry on the day include organiser Mike Sweetlove, who will also be introducing final act, Gabz.

“I’ll be reading a poem I performed on the radio many moons ago just before I introduce Gabz,” he said.

“I was nervous reading my stuff out on the radio, but she’s performed in front of Simon Cowell!” he said.

The finale is the teenage Britain’s Got Talent star who will be there to talk about her experiences, answer questions from the audience and perform a number of her self-penned tracks, including some from her debut EP, Up.

Herts-based Gabz took time out of her busy shedule to talk to the Crow.

“This year been amazing so far,” she said.

“I’ve recently released an EP and started using my YouTube channel so it’s been quite exciting and I’ve had a great response.

“At the moment I’m very much focused on school as it’s my A-level year so I’ve had to cut back on all my performances, but still play some gigs.

“I have lots of new songs which have already been recorded which I am excited about and I’ll be posting quite frequently on my YouTube channel.

“I’m really excited to perform some of my new songs from my EP in Royston as I haven’t performed them that much and I hope everyone will like them.”

Proceeds will go to the Trinity Life Church building fund.

Tickets for the four-hour show from 2pm on Sunday are £5 each or £3 for concessions. They are available from Royston Town Hall or you can book by calling 01462 895077.
