THE man they call the voice and guitar of Dire Straits is back with a new solo album.
But Mark Knopfler's latest record is quite a long way from his work with his old band.
That's not to say it isn't good.
Knopfler's amiable growl is as instantly recognisable as ever, and his guitar work is still excellent.
The songs might be regarded as fairly low-key, and need a few listens to sink in, but the effort is worthwhile.
Knopfler has clearly spent a lot of time on his lyrics, and his love of folk, country, and blues is evident, a path he has followed over his previous solo albums.
This is the work of a mature artist, a superb musician, who still has plenty to offer.
