The Flying Legends Air Show on Saturday and Sunday serves up a full payload of nostalgia with activities galore and more than 50 aircraft taking to the skies.

On the ground, the Manhattan Dolls from New York will be performing swinging songs in true Andrews Sisters style while the Winslow Concert Band will be playing toe-tapping swing and big band numbers to get your feet tapping and your hands clapping.

And actors paying tribute to Hollywood legends Laurel and Hardy will be sharing their special style of slapstick comedy.

Also on offer will be the chance to have a 1940s hair and make-up transformation, sit in a Spitfire, and see a Second World War observation post with living history interpreters representing members of the Royal Observer Corps, scrutinising the skies for enemy aircraft.

Visitors will also be able to take a close look at a First World War Nieuport 17 V-strutter aircraft and hear about what it was like to fly from experts in costume and character as pilots from the First World War.

Members of Ops 1939-45, who represent Battle of Britain-era RAF pilots and ground crew, will also be chatting to visitors in their uncannily accurate 1940s dispersal point display.

Colonel Richard Graham will chat to visitors about his experiences of flying the iconic SR-71 Blackbird, which is on display in the museum’s AirSpace building.

With the whole museum site to explore there’s plenty to keep everyone entertained before the flying display gets under way at 2pm. You can find out the full details of what’s on this weekend and admission prices online at www.iwm.org.uk.
