AFTER the runaway success of their platinum selling debut album The Back Room, Editors return with their second offering, An End Has a Start.

The tormented lyrics and infectious riffs of hits such as Munich and All Sparks remain, but An End Has a Start is an altogether more uplifting and expansive proposition than its edgy, claustrophobic, predecessor.

Latest single Smokers Outside Hospital Doors mixes the classic Editors style with the kind of soaring chorus you would expect from U2 or Coldplay.

Tracks such as Racing Rats and Weight of the World show that the band haven't undergone a complete metamorphosis, while Bones is reminiscent of hit single Bullets.

Overall Editors have handled the traditionally difficult second album pretty well. There's plenty here, while the new lighter dimension to their music could see them elevated to the status of soft-rock giants Coldplay and Snow Patrol.
