MICHAEL Rose is a man well versed in the principles of modern warfare. He was, after all, director of UK Special Forces and commander of the UN Protection Force in Bosnia.
It is a controversial book coming at a time when there is a growing demand for the removal of both US and British troops from Iraq.
He says that 200 years ago and now in Iraq the lesson being learned is that despite enormous military power being exercised it is not enough. It is a situation which, to say the least, is not seen as a conventional warfare.
Rose is experienced in counter-insurgency warfare and it is worthwhile taking a serious look at his opinions.
