WRITER Claire Tomalin turns her attention to novelist and poet Thomas Hardy in a documentary which coincides with the publication of her book, A Time-Torn Man.
She talks to Melvyn Bragg about such novels as Tess of D'Urberville and Jude the Obscure, which are seen as the key to understanding Hardy's work.
Her previous books have included biographies of Mary Wollstonecraft, Katherine Mansfield and Jane Austen.
