Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s ballet The Nutcracker will be danced by Saint Petersburg Classic Ballet at Cambridge Corn Exchange on December 29, 30 and 31 and January 1.
This is a spectacular new version of The Nutcracker, with baroque designs. This is the story of Clara, a little girl, on Christmas Eve. The toymaker comes to the house with a nutcracker doll for Christmas. None of the other children like it and Clara’s brother breaks it. But at night, while Clara is asleep, the doll turns into a prince who takes Clara away on a magical adventure where she sees dancers from all over the world.
The ballet was first performed in St Petersburgh in December 1892, and in Britain in December 1934.
Shows at 7.30pm on the Saturday and Sunday, matinees 2.30pm on the Sunday and 2pm on the Monday. New Year’s Day shows at 2pm and 6.30pm.
Tickets from £18 to £38, seniors £21, students, £18, from 01223 357851 or tickets@cambridgelivetrust.co.uk or www.cornex.co.uk.
