JOHN Grisham has become the recognised master of the legal thriller.
And in his new novel he returns to the workings of the court system and exposes the role politics can play in the quest for justice.
To make it even more contemporary, Grisham's whole story revolves around a case in Mississippi where a jury had the audacity to return a guilty verdict against a chemical company accused of dumping toxic waste which caused the worst "cancer cluster" in history.
Grisham, as usual, shows his depth of knowledge of the legal world - and the skill of the thriller writer as he unravels a story of corruption and the manipulation of the Mississippi Supreme Court which has the job of dealing with an appeal from the chemical company.
