THE sinking of the Belgrano became the most controversial act of the Falklands War.
It led to The Sun publishing the memorable headline "Gotcha" (although it was dropped in later editions) which many believed encapsulated the war in the south Atlantic.
Here author Mike Rossiter gives a retelling of the events from the perspective of the men who were on the doomed Argentine warship and those in pursuit on the British nuclear submarine HMS Conqueror.
He looks, too, at the decision-making behind giving the order to sink the Belgrano as it headed away from the Falklands and was outside the exclusion zone set up by the British around the islands.
The event, obviously, became the point when Britain actually declared war on Argentina and its troops who had invaded sovereign territory.
