FESTIVALS rarely come as nostalgic as this year's Glenn Miller concerts over the Bank Holiday weekend.

To add to the authenticity of days from the past the concerts are taking place at RAF Twinwood in Clapham, near Bedford.

This was where Miller played an open-air concert in 1944 - before the legendary bandleader boarded a plane which is still presumed to have been lost somewhere over the English Channel.

The concerts will include an appearance from the Opus One Orchestra, one of the leading bands to recreate the Miller sound, on Sunday; and John Miller and his Orchestra on Monday.

The Opus One Orchestra and John Miller have both appeared at Miller-style concerts in recent years at Bassingbourn Barracks.

John Miller is the nephew of Glenn Miller, who took over the band from his father, Herb Miller, in 1987 and has since done much to re-create the sound of those Second World War days.

Opus One Band was set up in 1983 and has played at a number of prestigious events, such as the 50th Anniversary of Second World War commemorations and the RAF anniversary commemoration of the Battle of Britain.
