Not many societies can claim to have alumni as diverse as Sir David Frost, Germaine Greer, and Sacha Baron Cohen.

The Cambridge Footlights, though, is not your average society.

The university's comedy troupe, which also counts three Pythons among its former members, will return to the Cambridge Arts Theatre on Sunday, November 12.

This year's student comedians will be joined by their peers from Oxford and Durham Universities for the Cambridge Comedy Festival.

Among the performers will be Footlights vice-president and BBC New Comedy Awards finalist Luke Roberts, whose new radio sketch show Spats will be broadcast in December.

The event will begin with half- an-hour of comedy from the Oxford and Durham revues, with Footlights providing an hour's entertainment after the interval.

With the performers all having achieved success at this year's Edinburgh Festival, the evening will contain a selection of styles from some of the country's best young talent.

The students appearing will perform sketches, stand-up, and songs, with Footlights members from recent productions Niceties and Grow Up.

With Footlights now based at the ADC Theatre in Cambridge, the festival will represent a return to the venue that the society called home between 1936 and 2000.

If you want to see the next Fry and Laurie, Armstrong and Miller or Mitchell and Webb, then this is your best chance to do so.

The Cambridge Comedy Festival will be at the Arts Theatre on November 12 at 7.45pm.

Tickets range from £7.50 - £12. To book call 01223 503333 or visit www.cambridgartstheatre.com
