WHILE the music industry is awash with wannabe soul divas at the moment, authentic rock chicks are harder to come by.

So the return of Liela Moss (the anti-Adele, if you like) and her band, The Duke Spirit, could be a timely one.

Neptune, their new album, sees the band build on the considerable promise shown in debut work Cut Across The Land.

The Duke Spirit have been based in America while recording the album, and the influence of stateside bands such as Sonic Youth and Queens of the Stone Age is there for all to see, particularly on grungier tracks such as Lassoo and Into the Fold.

Traditionally British-sounding fare is also present in the shape of recent single The Step and the Walk, and what is perhaps Neptune's high point, My Sunken Treasure.4/5
