The story revolves around the Hoovers from Albuquerque and their journey to the Little Miss Sunshine pageant in California.
Their seven-year-old daughter Olive (Abigail Breslin) has hopes of taking the title.
But along the way they have to deal with crushed dreams, heartbreaks - and a broken down VW bus.
It all leads up to the surreal competition which, it has to be said, could only happen in the United States.
