This year’s Cambridge Junction Christmas show features a young woman imprisoned in a tower, a wicked witch, a prince with self-esteem issues – and a lot of hair.

You guessed it, Rapunzel is showing at the theatre in the city’s Clifton Way – and it’s set to be a corker.

Rapunzel has been trapped in a lonely tower by a wicked enchantress since the day she was born. Se’s never been outside, never been on a date, and never had a haircut. But when a nature-loving Prince climbs up her plait, her life, her world and her hairdo is about to unravel.

Director Thomas Eccleshare said: “Audiences should expect a fun, bold, action-packed retelling of the classic story. It will be full of danger, love and lots of music!

“Our reimagining of the classic story draws out the themes of wildness, self image and what it means to be beautiful that are at the heart of this much-loved tale.

“In our version Rapunzel is a wild, animalistic young woman trapped in a tower by her wicked Aunt Gothel who is ashamed of her wildness.

“But when a geeky hairdresser called Prince stumbles upon her tower in the forest her views of the world are turned upside down...”

Expect a brush with danger, delight and dreadlocks as the much-loved tale by the Brothers Grimm is given a fresh twist this Christmas.
