Jamaican singer, songwriter, model and actress Grace Jones has been confirmed as this year’s third Standon Calling headliner.

The incomparable Pull Up to The Bumper and Slave to the Rhythm star has been announced as Standon Calling 2017’s very special Sunday night headliner.

She joins the previously announced Orbital and Clean Bandit on the Hertfordshire music festival’s summer line-up.

Editors, Slaves, Laura Mvula, KT Tunstall, Gary Numan, Nothing But Thieves, Kate Tempest and Idris Elba will also appear at Standon Lordship over the festival weekend from Thursday, July 27 to Sunday, July 30.

Weekend tickets are available now from £137 from http://standon-calling.com

Standon Calling founder and festival director Alex Trenchard has already called the line-up the “strongest” in the event’s history.

And Grace Jones’ closing Sunday night set is sure to be an eye-popping live spectacle. Expect ornate headdresses and masks, corsets, body paint and, possibly, topless Hula-hooping!

One of the true enigmas of modern music, Grace Jones has helped shape culture, art, music and beliefs over the past four decades.

With her distinctive androgynous look, Grace Jones first found fame in the 1970s as a model.

She later moved into music, signing to Island Records and enjoying success with disco and club hits in the late 70s and early 80s.

Her reinterpretation of Édith Piaf’s La Vie en rose appeared on her debut studio album 40 years ago, and she later enjoyed UK hits with singles Pull Up to The Bumper, Private Life, a cover of the Chrissie Hynde-penned The Pretenders track, and Slave to the Rhythm, which was produced by Trevor Horn.

One of the first artists to morph and bend genres to her will, she’s also embraced post-punk new wave, pop and reggae music in her career.

Other well known Grace Jones songs include My Jamaican Guy, Love Is the Drug, a cover of the Roxy Music single, and a version of David Bowie/Iggy Pop track Nightclubbing.

As an actress, the ‘scary’ looking Grace Jones appeared in fantasy-action film Conan the Destroyer alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger, and was a Bond girl in 1985 Roger Moore 007 movie A View to a Kill.

With 2017 marking 40 years since the release of her debut studio album Portfolio, Grace Jones’ headline set at Standon Calling this summer is set to be one that will be talked about for years to come.

Grace Jones joins a musical bill already bursting at the seams with diverse and eclectic favourites.
