FOR one day only The Cambridge Corn Exchange will play host to Raymond Gubbay's presentation of the classic tale of fantasy and romance - The Nutcracker.

And Tchaikovsky's great ballet masterpiece will be brought to life by the Russian State Ballet of Siberia and the Russian State Ballet Orchestra.

With breath-taking technique and exquisite artistry, the Russian State Ballet of Siberia will be performing three classical ballets: The Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake and The Nutcracker for their 2007 UK tour.

And for the lucky Cambridge audience, there will be a chance to continue the festivities into the New Year, with an enchanting score.

As night falls, the audience is transported to a fantasy world where dolls come to life, a Nutcracker is transformed into a handsome prince, and an army of toy soldiers do battle with a gang of mice.

With a captivating blend of dazzling entertainment and joyous music, The Nutcracker will transport you to a colourful world filled with wonderful characters, and remarkable storytelling.

Boasting spectacular sets, beautiful costumes, inspired soloists, and a full orchestra led by musical director Anatoly Tchpurnoi, this impressive company performs a sumptuous feast of superb ballet.

Formed in 1981, the Russian State Ballet of Siberia has quickly established itself as one of Russia's leading ballet companies and has built an international reputation for delivering performances of outstanding quality and unusual depth.

And Tchaikovsky's enchanting score and the visual spectacle of the magical ballet performances is sure to capture the imagination.

Despite the word Siberia conjuring up images of the cold - there is nothing but warmth in abundance here. Raymond Gubbay's adaptation of the Yuletide classic is visually vibrant and with its cartoon-like choreography it will appeal to children and adults alike.
