BBC2 Tuesday, 9pm
IN THE second of four documentaries, the spotlight is turned on the women of China.
The programme examines the lot of the women of the country, and how they are trying to improve their lives in society.
But they are battling against major problems, including the increasing levels of prostitution, and the highest female suicide rate in the world.
Various individual situations serve to give an insight into everyday life.
A couple return to their village for New Year, factory workers stage a variety show, and there is a telling glimpse of a country wedding.
The programme also examines the experiences of women who have left their homes for the cities to find work, having to leave their children in the care of elderly relatives.
