Bright sparks fuse together

THE Junction promises an ­electric night as four-piece rock band Caimbo headline the ­Junction Fiver.

The band are currently on a mini tour of the UK to promote their debut single, but took some time out from practising to have a chat with The Crow.

The music ceases and the lads chat eagerly about how they would describe their style.

"We're a traditional rock band rather than new.

"We went through an indie phase a few years ago then we went a bit more rocky, then it was a bit dancy."

Caimbo, made up of Leo Robarts, Piers Mortimer, Ali Sloane, and Dave Cullen, also have a rather eclectic visual style.

"We like the long hair, we're funky!" jokes Leo.

"We look like a gang rather than a sailor and three of his mates."

The energetic four-piece, who are yet to be signed, are all 20 and from Cambridge.

Leo says: "How we met was incredibly ­random.

"I knew Piers but we all met at boarding school and started the band - we all love to play instruments and then we just took the band to the next level."

Now the band have been together seven years and their debut single Something in the Way is due for release on April 14.

The boys are all very musical says Leo, and love to play as many instruments as they can.

"Even if I wasn't doing this I'd have to be doing something musical, even playing the harmonica!" he says.

Their influences stem from various genres says Leo, who appears to be the most ­forthcoming of the group.

"We all like Kings of Leon, Piers is into his older stuff like Led Zeppelin and The Police.

"But we also like dancy stuff, electro, and Dave likes Basement Jaxx.

"We have a wide variety of songs. Our style seemed to change while we were recording the first album."

And that first album is titled Electric Dreams, which was co-produced by Ben Mason (Arctic Monkeys, Razorlight and The Kooks) and then mixed by Tim Palmer (U2 and Pearl Jam) while the band were on a trip to LA.

The band are set for big things with spots in NME and Kerrang magazines coming up and Caimbo will also be Q magazine's free download of the month.

And, it seems the boys are setting their sights high too.

"We want to take over the world!" says Leo.

"We want to be known for playing music and doing the thing we love." Says Piers.

"We're not tied down to Britain. It's a big world out there and we want to see it."

The band are looking forward to playing in London's Camden Town before making the trip back home to Cambridge where they promise an electric show.

"We love performing live and we are better live. We do something for everyone.

"We even covered an electro track one night. We like to spice things up.

"People who didn't necessarily like our music always enjoy our shows, and say 'I wasn't sure but I had a really good time', which is great.

"We put on a good live show. It will be ­electric.
