An exhibition of portraits of past employees of Crittall Windows, early in the 20th century, painted by the rising artists of the 1920s, will be mounted at Braintree Museum from Saturday, January 26.
An exhibition of portraits of past employees of Crittall Windows, early in the 20th century, painted by the rising artists of the 1920s, will be mounted at Braintree Museum from Saturday, January 26.
The factory was founded in 1889 and this will be the first time the pictures will have been shown together in 90 years.
The collection was first shown in 1928 and some need restoration.
The opening of the exhibition will launch a fundraising campaign to conserve two of the paintings, the portrait of Mr Strutt, the night watchman, affectionately known as Uncle, and that of Miss Coope, a telephonist in Crittall’s London Office, the latter is in too poor a condition to display.
