BBC2, Sunday, 9pm

A NEW series which re-creates the epic race to the South Pole in 1911 between explorers Robert Falcon Scott and the Norwegian Roald Amundsen.

The six-part series sees two modern-day teams using the original resources available to the expeditions.

There are interviews, too, with historians, explorers and biographers which help tell the story of the epic encounter which, as we know, ended in Amundsen's triumph and Scott's death.

The series raises questions about whether Scott was a great hero or a poor leader, or whether Amundsen was really the enlightened explorer he is claimed to be.
