THE plot to Becoming Jane seems to adapt both the reality of Jane Austen's life and her world of novels.
It is not to say, however, that this is a biopic which cannot be believed.
Certainly, Jane Austen came from parents who wanted to see her make a lucrative match while she - as in her novels - was more attracted to a certain brash law student.
In a way it has all the makings of Pride and Prejudice.
Anne Hathaway does well with an English accent in the leading role and is surrounded by a supporting cast including James McAvoy and Julie Walters.
And there is, too, appearances from such acting stalwarts as Ian Richardson - in his last role - and the ever reliable Dame Maggie Smith.
