THIS is a piece of historical drama revolving around the quest of politician William Wilberforce to see the abolition of slavery.
Wilberforce is the hero who after years of campaigning saw his dream turn into reality.
But it was not his eloquence in Parliament nor his powers of persuasion, but the circumstances of the time that eventually ended the slave-trade.
Needless to say, however, Wilberforce deserved the credit for the many years he devoted to a cause that looked lost and would led to others being utterly disillusioned.
Ioan Gruffudd is inspiring as Wilberforce with support from the likes of Albert Finney and Michael Gambon.
Director Michael Apted captures the political upheavals of the 18th century and shows clearly the need to end an outrageous episode in British history.
