BECOMING a comedy superstar without appearing on television is no mean feat considering it is where many of today's funny men and women get their big break.

But Roy 'Chubby' Brown has done it and he is back at the Gordon Craig Theatre with his latest comic offerings - and they're not for the easily offended.

In appearance he is not unlike a traditional clown, dressed in his trademark multi-coloured suit and flying helmet.

And this genuinely funny man constantly delivers with his comic songs, style, and funny walk/dance.

Not afraid to laugh it his 19-stone self, Roy 'Chubby' Brown's material is never static.

He studies the newspapers every day to find the comedy within, and his philosophy is: find one funny piece every day. Over a year that is a lot of material.

Born Royston Vasey in 1945, Roy appeared on the television show New Faces in the 1970s and came second.

He wasn't so lucky with Opportunity Knocks, not making it past the audition after saying a certain word during his interview.

His real name, Royston Vasey, was used for the fictional village in the comedy television show The League of Gentlemen. He also made several cameo appearances as the foulmouthed mayor of the village.

The controversial nature of Mr Brown's act may be the reason that he rarely appears on major television channels, but it seems to do the trick.

Roy Chubby Brown will be appearing at the Gordon Craig Theatre on March 14 at 7.30pm.

Tickets cost £19.50 and are available from the box office on 08700 131030 or online at www.gordon-craig.co.uk
