BUNTINGFORD boss Paul Attfield has praised the clubs youth policy and says the club is in safe hands.

His enthusiasm comes in the light of five of the club's youth players being named in the Hertfordshire County under-18 squad to face Norfolk this month.

Attfield said: "I'm delighted for the boys, but I have to say that I'm not surprised. They are a very talented bunch of players."

Included in the squad for the East Anglian Counties Championship are midfielders Jamie Morriss and Tom Randall, goalkeeper Robbie Cook, winger Luke Robbins, and striker Ricky Young.

Former Buntingford striker Ashley Townsend, another product of the youth team, has also been picked.

Attfield said: "Their selection compliments our youth system, which the club has spent a lot of money on.

"We have fantastic training facilities and set up, which attract a lot of talented players, not just in Buntingford, but from all over.

"It's good for the boys and the club. Most of them have already appeared for the first team, and it's all good experience for them.

"We have a lot of promising players and it bodes well for the future."

Last season, Buntingford's youth team scooped an amazing treble of trophies after winning Eastern Youth League and cup, as well as the Divisional Winners Championship.

Attfield said: "Last year was terrific, but they are also doing very well this year. Nothing has been achieved yet, but it could be another good year."

- The first team could go top on Saturday, if they beat the current league leaders Whitewebbs at The Bury.

Attfield added: "It should be a great game and if we can get the win, we can go top of the table. I'm confident that we can, the team is playing some very good football, and are on the back of a very good run.
