THE Royston Crows Athletic Club were introduced to 'real' English cross-country conditions at Stowe, Buckinghamshire on Saturday. The testing course provided strength-sapping mud, steep hills, and blizzard conditions. The under-13 boys produced the best result, with an outstanding team position of fifth. Dustin Hone led the team of Matt Clarke, Bruce Harrison and Matt Cooper home in 20th place. Toby Hone matched his brother's performance in the under-15 boys, with a fine seventh place, his best position of the season. Josh Hughes once again flew the flag for Royston in the under 11 boys, placing 24th. The girls displayed just as much strength and character to overcome the conditions. Sophie Jones in 10th, and Sophie Clarke, 18th, made easy work of the hills in the under-11s, and Heather Barral and Georgia Clarke powered through the mud in the under 13s. Anyone interested in joining the club should go to training sessions, meeting at Royston Leisure Centre on Mondays at 6pm. - Royston Swimming Club's Major League gala at Haileybury on Saturday was postponed because of problems with the pool.
