Royston Golf Club’s past captain Graham Toby had a week to remember with two victories.

His 69 in Sunday’s Centenary Final won him the trophy as the top 15 qualifiers battled it out in sunny conditions. Second was James Smith who went round in 72 whilst Darren Dawson and Mark Crowley both took one more to finish joint third.

Toby’s victory followed up his team’s success in the Memorial Trophy, which was held on Saturday. The best three Stableford count from teams of four players in the charity competition and this year the winning score was 111. Libby Toby, Mick Joyner and Sandra Joyner accompanied the past captain to victory.

Second place was taken by the team headed by Royston’s senior captain John Kelly, whose team, made up of Sue Dean, Peter Dean and Gill Doughton, finished with 109 points. Third place, on 103 points, was Scott Parnell, Peter Rutter, Steve de Fraine and Stewart Hart.

The July Medal, also held on Sunday for non-qualifiers for the Centenary final, saw an excellent round of 66 from Neil Skehel take the honours whilst Gary Fortune was second with 68 and Steve Brooker on 69 third.

In the Midweek Golfers Stableford, newcomer to golf, Alan Hooton, amassed 43 points to win easily by eight points from Keith Taylor and Raymond Haw, who both returned with 35 points.

In the ladies’ section this week, the Challenge Cup was won by Sandra Williams with Karen Pearson runner-up. Meanwhile the Twilight Stableford was won by Sarah Buckerfield. Marjory Humphreys was second.
