Foxton 242-5dec (40 overs)

Khalsa 173 (43.2 overs)

Foxton won by 69 runs

SPINNER Adam Webster’s impressive seven-wicket haul on Saturday enabled Foxton to close the gap on league leaders Ramsey to just five points.

Foxton started their innings well with Cei Sanderson (61), Gareth Roots (37) and Man of the Match Webster (42) all putting on good scores early on. Peter Moor was the pick of the visiting batsmen, though, as he hit a fantastic 71* before his team declared at 242-5 after 40 overs – earning an eight-over bonus.

Foxton’s bowling attack was badly depleted by absences and they opened with off-spinner Tom Stone and slow medium paceman Mark Ferrari, but success was not forthcoming against Milaan Chand and Shaakar Mahmood who took the score to 69 without loss.

Khalsa continued to score regularly until the reintroduction of Webster shortly before tea turned the match in Foxton’s favour. He bagged seven wickets in a magnificent 45-minute spell of bowling that earned his team the victory. He finished with figures of 10.2-1-35-7.

With only two matches to play, the top of the league has tightened with the points tally being Ramsey 337, Godmanchester 332, Foxton 331, and long time leaders March sitting on 325, so the solitary promotion spot is still up for grabs.

Meanwhile, Foxton IIs beat Babraham by 61 runs on their last match of the season. Despite the win they narrowly missed out on promotion. The highlight of this match came from 14-year-old Chris Hoole, who opened the innings and carried his bat for a chanceless 132. The club now look forward to him challenging for a first team place next season.
