FRUSTRATION was the order of the day on Saturday as Royston and Whittlesford second teams battled the weather until 6.30pm in their Cambridgeshire Cricket Association Division 3 match, only for the game to be abandoned with 11 overs left.

With the game going to the wire, both teams sensed victory was close and were disappointed with the early finish.

Whittlesford started confidently, but a fine catch by Craig Jackson gave Royston their first breakthrough.

Jaggard and Show then put on 38 for the second wicket, but Alan Hooton, who has come out of retirement, saw off both batsmen by turning back the years with a superb bowling spell of 7-3-12-4.

Naveed Ahmed (1-28) and Dave Sladen (1-26) also chipped in to help Hooton run down the Whittlesford innings.

Dave Isherwood also took two wickets, with Whittlesford finishing on 105 all out.

Royston stuttered in their reply and lost two early wickets before Mick Miller (25 not out) and youngster Rory Harper (7) continued their form of late, to hold together a stand of 25.

Isherwood (11 not out) then came in, and just as he was getting among the runs the match was called off, with Royston needing 47 runs from the remaining 11 overs, with seven wickets in hand.
