PAUL ATTFIELD condemned an "extremely weak" refereeing performance, despite seeing his Buntingford Town side dispatch Bovingdon 4-1 on Saturday.

Newly promoted Bovingdon took a very physical approach to the game, and manager Attfield felt several bad tackles on his players went unpunished.

He said: "We came in for some crude treatment at times, and the referee was extremely weak in dealing with it.

"It certainly affected our game, but we addressed this at half- time and put it right in the second half."

Town created some good chances in the opening moments of the match, with Danny Nicholls twice being denied by home keeper Gary McMahon.

They eventually took a 13th minute lead when a long pass from full back Lewis Endacott was lobbed in by Will Turl.

However, after the goal the home side began to get a foothold in the match, and equalised in the 32nd minute when their midfielder won possession on half way and fired a shot past Damion Williamson from 20 yards.

Attfield changed the formation slightly before half time, and was rewarded with two quickfire goals.

In the 40th minute, Tom Malins rammed the ball home after Turl's cross had been half-cleared.

Then, right on the half-time whistle, a fine passing move involving Turl, Nicholls, and Conor De Lacy saw the latter set up Malins to slot in his second.

With a two-goal cushion, and the home side visibly wilting in the hot conditions, Town controlled the second half and missed a hatful of chances. Home keeper McMahon was in fine form, denying Turl, Nicholls, and Gary Christie, before Endacott completed the scoring from 15 yards after a good overlapping run.

"The result and performance was a good way to build on Tuesday night's win," said Attfield.

"In the second half especially we played some excellent stuff and at times our creativity was exceptional."
