Buntingford Town 3 Stotfold 0

GOALS from David Cain, Tim .Jarman and Ashley Townsend sent Town into their second final of the season.

Paul Attfield's team will meet Woodbridge Town in the Ridgeons Youth League Cup final at Braintree Town FC on May 9.

Attfield said: "The work-rate never dropped for one moment and in the end we just ground our opponents down."

After just 11 minutes a fine diagonal ball from Luke Jones found Luke Robins on the left and after turning the full-back his powerful drive was blocked by the Stotfold keeper.

John Bitting then had a goalbound strike blocked by a defender and Bitting hit a 25-yard volley a fraction over the bar.

Robins was then stretchered off with an ankle injury midway through the half. He was taken to Lister Hospital with strained ligaments but should be fit for Town's county cup final on Sunday.

With 25 minutes gone, Stotfold had their only real chance of the evening when Town failed to clear the ball and a 18-yard shot hit the inside of a post. The ball rolled to another forward who somehow managed to put the ball wide from 10 yards.

Despite this Town's collective defensive show was quite brilliant and McHale only touched the ball on a handful of occasions for the remainder of the game.

Town continued to push and got their deserved breakthrough in first-half injury time.

A Stotfold player clashed with Tom Malins in the visiting area after the ball had been cleared and the referee brought play back to award the penalty.

Townsend's well-struck kick was saved but he reacted quickest to volley home and Town went into the break a goal to the good.

Town scored a second goal within three minutes of the restart.

Malins reacted to some poor defending to cross from the byline for David Cain to stoke home unmarked from 10 yards.

Stotfold threw more players forward but Town's determined defensive play did not show any signs of being breached and frustration led to a number of cautions for visiting players.

As the half wore on Town gained control of the game and only the visiting keeper kept the score to a respectable level.

Jones saw a tremendous 25-yard volley superbly tipped over and Wilmott's fine drive was turned on to a post.

Malins shot into the side netting when clear on goal and Bitting had another effort clear the crossbar before the final goal came late on.

A fine right side free-kick from Carl Simmonds caused defensive panic and Jarman reacted quickest to convert from six yards.
