TWO second half goals from Kris Watters won the spoils for Melbourn in this tight Junior Invitation Cup derby game against Fowlmere.

Both teams went into the game undefeated in all competitions and it was Melbourn who started off the stronger with a couple of close efforts.

Fowlmere soon found their stride, however, and drew first blood through Danny Mizon who scored his eighth of the season when he volleyed home from outside the area after 20 minutes.

Just after the half hour mark Melbourn struck back when Tom Barton sent in a cross which was fumbled into the back of the net by Fowlmere's 'keeper Harben, and the score remained 1-1 until half time.

After the break Melbourn took the lead when Andrew Gray battled his way onto a through ball to put the home team 2-1 up.

This was soon cancelled out by a Carl Frostrick strike from the right on 55 minutes.

On 70 minutes Glen Pearse in Melbourn's goal cleared a long ball which Watters, standing 30 yards outside the Fowlmere area, hit on the volley.

The ball sprang from his foot towards the goal and hit the back of the net just under the crossbar.

Shortly afterwards Watters chased another long ball and won a 50-50 with Fowlmere's 'keeper to score his second and Folwmere's fourth.

To add to Folwmere's woes Danny O'Farrell went off injured with a chipped bone in his foot.

Speaking after the game, Fowlmere manager Steve Walker said: "This game was more important because it was a local derby rather than it being a cup game, but we were outclassed throughout and Melbourn deserved the win.

"We're still in another three cups but we want to prioritise the league this season and make sure we give ourselves a good chance of going up.
