Melbourn 3 Barrington 1

BIS Division 1A

IT was truly a game of two halves as Melbourn entertained local rivals Barrington.

The hosts didn't get going in the first half and this was to Barrington's credit as they played some excellent counterattacking football.

Melbourn failed to string any sort of passing together and the reliable source that is Andrew Gray's throws were snubbed out by excellent goalkeeping.

As the half drew on Melbourn's man-of-match Mark Ferrari became increasingly involved and kept the game level with a sublime save from a long distance volley.

However as the half drew to a close Melbourn fell behind when following shambolic defending from a corner Melbourn couldn't get the ball clear and Tim Hurst put the visitors ahead.

Melbourn started the second half brightly and Barrington found it difficult to deal with the increased pace of the game and the introduction of Andy Richardson for Andrew Morris improved Melbourn's fortunes.

Shortly after being introduced Richardson took a corner from the right and Andrew Gray ghosted in to head home for the equaliser.

Melbourn took firm grip of the game and a short while later took the lead.

Ferrari gathered excellently in the box and his quickly taken long kick left Kris Watters one-on-one with the away 'keeper and there was only going to be one winner. Watters' celebration showed how important the game was to Melbourn.

The game was put beyond doubt 10 minutes from time and with the light fading.

Tom Walker chipped an excellent ball down the right wing which left the away defence flat footed and Richardson in acres of space.

His measured cross found Watters who volleyed home at the second time of asking to complete the scoring and give the hosts all three points.
