Melbourn U11s earned a well-deserved 6-3 triumph over Hatfield Youth in what was a highly entertaining match.
Melbourn’s Ryan Barton opened the scoring to give his team a brief first half lead, which led to a steady stream of goals from both sides.
Sam Fallon and Ben Greenaway played well at the back for Melbourn while Martin Downey lobbed an excellent second. Hatfield didn’t lay down, though, and went into half time 3-2 up.
Melbourn took control after the break but goalkeeper Theo Windred had to be alert to keep out two goal-bound efforts.
Man of the match, Luke Warner was a menace down the right-wing and his crosses led to two further goals for Barton and Ollie Deadman. Warner got the goal his performance deserved before Cameron Ireland scored the sixth.
