BARLEY bounced back from last weekend s disappointing defeat with a 10-run victory over Burrough Green in the Cambs League Division 1B. Jamie Walters got the hosts off to a great start with his impressive innings of 66, including 10 fours and two sixes.

Jamie Walters got the hosts off to a great start with his impressive innings of 66, including 10 fours and two sixes. However, fellow opener Mark Downer and Chris Allan were both dismissed for 0 courtesy of Mark Ward's bowl and catch.

Skipper Brian Symes did much to restore the early pace with an equally impressive 76, while Chris Markham (4), Stuart Gurnell (3), Joe Fanthorpe (5), Jason Busby-Mitchell (6) and Eric Davis's (1) contributions were all quick yet valuable.

Nick Butler (4), and Peter Chuck (0) saw the innings through as Barley finished on 186 for 9 off their 40 overs.

In response the visitors also got off to a challenging start with opener Ian Lister (63) starting well. Mark Ward also made Barley work with his testing 37, while Ryan Tripp (17), Sachin Sinagare (18) and Paul Dennison (20) also threatened.

With a win looking likely, Barley's bowling order slowed the pace and despatched the next four Green batsmen with relative ease as Symes added to his four-wicket haul.

As a result Burrough Green ended on 176 for 8 off their 40 overs.

n In Division 1, Barrington condemned basement boys Stapleford to another defeat with the hosts making 209 for 10. In reply, Stapleford battled well but could only manage 149 for 10.

Barrington seconds also impressed in Division 5C with a 76-run win at Linton Village, having set a target of 186 for 4.

Bassingbourn Cricket Club also secured a double win, with the firsts seeing off Stapleford seconds in Division 2C. The seconds battled hard in their 45-run victory, with a challenging 188 for 10 too much for Division 5C rivals Cokenach seconds.

In Division 2C, Foxton seconds beat Little Shelford by six wickets. Shelford set the standards with an excellent 240 for 6, however Foxton replied with vigour and smashed their way to a well-worked 244.

There was further disappointment for Royston seconds, who were comfortably beaten at Godolphin. The hosts made 238 for 9, before easing Royston out of the match with for a dire 97 for 10.

In Division 3C, Steeple Morden crashed to defeat at home to Abington seconds with a seven-wicket loss. Steeple reached 164 for 8, a total that was breached with much control as the visitors made 165 for 3.

Cokenach claimed a comfortable win in Division 1B, with a commanding eight-wicket win over Longstowe. The visitors totalled 128 for 10, before Cokenach made 129 with the loss of just two wickets.
