GOALS from Darren Dyer and Dan Caley moved Fowlmere into third place in the BIS League Division 1A as Steve Walker's side continued their impressive form.

In a game that Fowlmere dominated from the kick-off, Dyer opened the scoring after 20 minutes when he was picked out by Caley's cross from the left.

With the home side's midfield first to every ball, Fowlmere controlled the tempo and should have gone further in front with chances falling to both Dyer and stand-in skipper Karyl Darcey.

However, Darcey quickly made amends when his run and pass set up goal-scoring midfielder Caley's angled drive.

Paul Reynolds also went close, but he was denied by the visiting keeper, as Fowlmere went into the break two goals to the good.

In the second half, the visitors put up more of a fight and began to see more of the ball.

However, it was the hosts who created the half's best chances, with Dyer and Caley going close.

Midfielder Bobby Cripps also saw a good effort test the Fulbourn keeper after some good play from Darcey.

Manager Steve Walker said: "It was another good win for us, and I thought we looked comfortable right from the start.

"Dyer took his goal very well and Caley showed his threat once more from midfield, although I thought we probably should have had two or three more.

"I was also equally pleased to have kept another clean sheet and our centre-backs Nick King and Darren Sewell, who are both in their 40s, kept things tight at the back.

"I also thought Darcey had a very good game, and he's pressing me to make him captain every week because in the three games that he has been skipper we've won them all!"

Fowlmere travel to Sawston Rovers on Saturday, a team Walker's side thumped back in November.

"We beat them quite comfortably a few months back, and I'm sure they will want to get their own back after our 5-0 win," said Walker.

"We're certainly in a run of form at the moment and as a result we've moved up to third.

"The teams around us have a few games in hand, so how long we will stay here depends on results.

"However, we want to be challenging at the top and we are determined to make it hard for those clubs around us, and that will hopefully mean a win on Saturday.

"The next few games are going to be very important for us. On our day we can beat any team in this league - so we're going to give it our best shot."
