JOAN SMITH had a double celebration at the weekend - winning both the alternate ladies bogey competition and the LGU Medal at Royston Golf Club.

Her score of +3 took the bogey title ahead of Karen Pearson, and her four-round total of 291 was good enough to win the LGU competition, but only on countback from Janice Abrahams.

Mary Mitchell won the bogey competition on Thursday with a score of -1, to edge out Sheila Wood on countback. Shirley Bradshaw took third spot ahead of Bridget Long.

Andrew Greville-Smith won division one of the men's medal on Sunday, taking the silver spoon with a nett 70 from his seven handicap.

John Griffin finished second and Gary Fortune third, both with nett 70s.

Mial Walker, who has seen his fourteen handicap, trimmed by a shot after his nett 67, won division two, for players with handicaps of 13 and above.

David Millership was second on countback from Wayne Hunt. Both players finished on 69.

This week the club hosts the Cambridge University Stymies team in a encounter that has been played for a number of years over 36 holes.

The Blues will be looking to avenge their defeat of last year, when several of the Royston players had large victories.
