Royston Town Vets 6 Burwell Vets 0

ROYSTON Town Vets maintained their 100 per cent record in the Cambs Invitation Cup with a convincing 6-0 win over Burwell.

Town opened the scoring after 20 minutes when Nick Humphries was upended in the penalty area and Paul Lewis calmly stroked home the resultant penalty. Peter Leete added a second on the half-hour mark when he deflected a goal-bound effort from Mark Saggers through a crowded goal area into the net.

Excellent passing and movement from Town in the second half mesmerised a plucky Burwell team and Town added to the scoreline on a regular basis throughout the half. An incisive move ended with a fine left-wing cross from Lewis and Leete was in the right place to head past the ‘keeper for number three. Carlo Silenti then threaded an excellent ball from midfield to Lewis and the 50-year old made no mistake with his shot on goal. Dave Daniels then got his name on the scoresheet when he volleyed in a Leete cross. Following a spell on the sidelines Lewis came back to the field of play and promptly completed his hat-trick and rounded off the scoring when he turned in a Daniels cross at the far post.
