ROYSTON Vets saw off a spirited Potton side with much of the work taking place in the first half.
The Vets started the game in some style, running from deep, offloading the ball in the tackle, and looking to make overlaps at every opportunity.
And some good interchanging of passes between forwards and backs found prop forward and man-of-the-match Tim Boyce in space to race over for their opening try.
Royston then added a second with the backs and forwards again combining and as a result of a good scrummage the ball was played to Steve Bristow, who cut back inside with Colin Letch on hand to crash over for a further five points.
Royston went into the break with a 12 point lead, with Potton seemingly dead and buried.
And within minutes hooker Steve Mills' powerful play was rewarded with his first try for the Vets after another driving maul tore through the Potton line.
Bristow then nabbed a try of his own, with his pace slicing through the Potton defence to score between the posts.
Tony Richardson then added to the points after a powerful scrimmage gave him space.
And rather than passing back inside, Richardson deftly chipped the ball over the defence and collected the falling ball with a giant leap to dive over the try line.
Cameron Murdoch then grabbed the try of the game in a move that involved almost the entire team.
After collecting a poor penalty kick from Potton, the Royston forwards drove on and Colin Dacey released Murdoch on the half way line.
Murdoch then sped away and left his opposite number trailing in his wake with a wonderful run and finish.
