CAMBRIDGE United will face Weymouth in the second round of the FA Cup after defeating Aldershot 2-1 in their first round encounter at the Abbey last Saturday.

The home side dominated throughout, but some fine saves from Shots keeper Nikki Bull kept them at bay in the first half.

The visitors took the lead with a breakaway goal from Johnny Dixon, who latched on to Joel Grant's flick on and confidently beat Danny Potter.

In the second half United continued to press, and Bull was finally beaten when Lee Boylan headed home a cross from Daryl Knights.

Substitute Leo Fortune-West scored the winner from close range in the 85th minute to leave United just one match away from a potential third round clash with one of the Premier League big boys.

Before Saturday's match, supporters trust Cambridge Fans United (CFU) presented the club with a cheque for £5,000 to be put towards the Happy New Year Promotion Fund.

The fund was set up recently to provide cash for manager Jimmy Quinn to strengthen his squad during the January transfer window.

The club's directors have promised to match any money raised by supporters up to £50,000.

CFU spokesman Will Jones said: "Everything we can do to obtain promotion and regain league status can only benefit everyone involved with the club."

Jimmy Quinn hopes to secure the future of Yeovil loanee Daryl Knights this week.

The teenage striker's initial one-month loan spell ends on Friday, and Quinn is keen to keep hold of the former Ipswich player, who has formed a good understanding with Lee Boylan and Scott Rendell over the last few games.

This Saturday United have another home match, when they host bottom-of-the-table-Northwich. Kick-off is at 3pm.
