CAMBRIDGE United's promotion push is back on track after two tough fixtures this week yielded four points.

Jimmy Quinn's men have yet to lose against any of the other teams in the Blue Square Premier top five, and they preserved this record by beating Stevenage Borough 2-1 on Saturday and holding league leaders Aldershot to a goalless draw on Tuesday.

The Aldershot match saw chances at both ends, with Scott Rendell, Mark Beesley, and Lee Boylan going close for United, and Shots top scorer John Grant wasting a couple of gilt-edged opportunities. Danny Potter also had to be at his best to keep out a powerful shot from Kirk Hudson.

On Saturday, a late goal from Rendell saw off Stevenage as United completed the double over their neighbours. Courtney Pitt gave United the lead, following up after a cross from Beesley was parried by Stevenage keeper Alan Julian. The visitors equalised through Luke Oliver, but Rendell came off the bench to snatch an 89th minute winner.

This weekend United travel to one of their bogey teams, Halifax Town. The U's have not won at the Shay for more than a decade, and last season succumbed to a 1-0 defeat.

Jimmy Quinn will hope to welcome back midfielder Ben Farrell. The former Bedford man enjoyed a superb full debut against Stevenage, but suffered a blow to the head which kept him out of the Aldershot match. One player definitely missing is Paul Carden, who serves a one-game ban after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season.
