ROYSTON'S impressive unbeaten start to the season came to an end on Sunday against a strong Luton Golds.
Despite getting off to a shaky start, the visitors were soon picking up the pace, with Tracy Stimson's excellent long-range shooting.
However, in the second quarter the hosts began to pull ahead, despite the best efforts of Royston's defensive trio Jo Moxham, Anna Pinner, and Emma Higton, and by the end of the quarter Royston were trailing 23-14.
In the next quarter Royston changed their line-up, with Natalie Williams and Karen Hume joining the play.
And it proved most effective as Royston snatched four goals in succession, with Stimson and Emma Kelly finding the net.
As a stand alone quarter Royston had it in the bag with a 12-11 win - however as a total score they trailed 38-25.
In the final quarter Royston went all out with Stimson tireless in the centre court attack and thanks to the player-of-the-match's outstanding shooting, Royston kept taking the points.
It was a valiant effort from Royston against a team that had only just dropped down a division.
Karen Hume said: "Not once did Royston give up. Although this was a loss for the team we did not consider it as such, to get close to a team who have just moved down was a victory for all concerned."
Royston Squad: Kelly, Stimson, Huttlestone, Hume, Pacell, Williams, Higton, Pinner and Moxham.
